Stress coach Amsterdam

You meet your deadlines, you still manage to go to the gym and you call it a 'busy period'. The only problem is that this period has now lasted eight months, and you wake up tired every day.

A stress coach helps you break this cycle: first by showing you what the strain is doing to your mind and body, then by supporting your recovery and strengthening your foundation so that you do not burn out. A stress coach helps you understand how stress affects you and teaches you to respond differently, so that stress no longer determines your behaviour. That is the short definition. In practice, I see people who have been running on empty for months: sleeping badly, waking up tired, losing perspective, having a short fuse and still being unable to stop.

I am Milo and I work from Amsterdam Oud-West, at Overtoom near Vondelpark. To me, stress is not a mindset problem that can be solved through a good conversation. It is a state of the nervous system. You change that by addressing your mind, your breathing and your physical load at the same time. That is exactly what I can do within one program as an accredited ACT coach, breathwork specialist and personal trainer.

What does a stress coach do? And when should you hire one?

There is no warning light that goes on the moment things become too much. Most people who come to me have already been crossing a line they never saw coming for months. The signs are not dramatic, but so recognizable: you fall asleep but wake up at four in the morning, you get irritated by the smallest things, your weekend is mostly about recovering (if that even works), and after a workout, you no longer feel satisfied.

As a stress coach, I will of course talk to you, but ultimately, measuring is more important than just talking. We look at how you breathe at rest and under load, map out your overall capacity, and weigh that against what is actually being asked of you in your week. Think of stressors such as work, training, and social activities, but also the space available for recovery through sleep, nutrition, and real time for yourself. In addition, we look at how you deal with all of this.

This creates a much more concrete picture than just: “I have a lot of stress.” Because it almost always turns out that the load itself is not the problem. Stress does not have to be a problem in itself. It is mainly about how much space there is for recovery in relation to that load and whether the two are still in balance. When that foundation has slipped away, that is something we can work on in a targeted way.

Stress coaching in Amsterdam

You breathe about twenty thousand times a day. With long-term stress, that pattern can shift: you start breathing faster and higher in the chest, while your exhalation becomes shorter than your inhalation. Your body interprets this as a signal of danger and keeps you alert, even when nothing is wrong. During a breathing analysis, I measure your respiratory rate, assess whether your body is physically capable of breathing well, and look at how easily you can switch between exertion and rest.

This results in a program with which you can experience a noticeable difference by spending just five minutes a day on it. You learn to bring your system to rest more easily when tension makes you cramp up, and to activate it when you need sharpness.

This is the part of my work from which you usually notice results the fastest. For example, most people are already sleeping more deeply within two weeks. And you can imagine: with better sleep, you immediately have a firmer foundation to build on further.

Personal trainer in Amsterdam:
strength as a buffer against stress

Strength training is also a form of stress for your body. That might sound contradictory when you are already overloaded, but precisely because we can dose that load, training can help. We determine how hard you train, when you stop, and how much recovery you need afterward. This trains your nervous system to function under tension and then switch back down. That is exactly what is often missing when stress is constantly present in your daily life and you can no longer properly gauge when you should or can stop.

As a European-certified personal trainer in Amsterdam, I start with a movement analysis. Based on that, I build a program that fits your body and what you can handle at that moment. For someone who has been running on empty for a long time, that looks different than it does for a Hyrox athlete. We opt for less volume, more recovery, and workouts that give you energy instead of draining you for the rest of the day. As your capacity increases, we also build up the intensity.

I train sports enthusiasts of all levels, including kitesurfers, Hyrox athletes, and tennis players, but also ambitious professionals with busy schedules who notice their energy is running out. What we discuss during a coaching session, we put into practice in the gym under load. That is where you notice whether it really works.

Frequently asked questions about stress coaches

Where in Amsterdam can I go?

On the Overtoom in Amsterdam Oud-West, near Vondelpark. My clients come from the West, South, and Center districts. We train indoors or in Vondelpark, and coaching sessions can be held online if that is more convenient.

How do I know if I need a stress coach or something more intensive?

Roughly speaking: if you are still able to work and function, coaching is appropriate. If you have dropped out of work or can no longer cope, you should first consult a GP or company doctor. I provide referrals if necessary, and I am happy to work alongside medical treatment rather than instead of it.

How quickly will I notice a difference?

The breathing component works the fastest. Sleeping more deeply within two to three weeks is normal. Changing how you handle pressure takes longer; count on about three months before it becomes second nature rather than something you have to consciously think about.

What does stress coaching in Amsterdam cost?

A coaching session of approximately 75 minutes costs 175 euros, including preparation based on your intake. Breathwork costs between 75 and 115 euros, depending on whether it is an individual or group session and the duration. Personal training costs 75 to 100 euros per session, depending on your frequency. All three combined in the Milo Mentorship is 649 euros per month.

Do I need to be active already to start?

No. Many of my clients start precisely because they haven't been able to exercise for months. We start at your current level, which is often lower than people expect.

Can my employer cover the costs?

This happens regularly, especially with programs aimed at preventing burnout. For teams and employers, I use a corporate rate, which I provide upon request.
